“The schools Seattle deserves start with RESPECT. From ‘No Child Left Behind’ to the ‘Race to the Top’, education reform has become synonymous with policy that has little to do with the actual practice of teaching such as charter expansion, merit pay and value added models. These policies scapegoat teachers for systemic failures. It is teachers who are the real education experts. I want to see the union better educate members about the research invalidating failed reforms so we are better able to talk to the community about issues facing public education. I believe that a more informed membership would be better equipped to take a stand.”
